Beta-Glucans Without the Hype

A careful overview of mushroom polysaccharides and why labels need context.

Liona editorial · Updated September 22, 2026
The short answer

Beta-glucans are a group of polysaccharides discussed in mushroom composition. A percentage needs an identified material, test method, and context; it is not a clinical outcome.

Know what was measured

Total polysaccharides and beta-glucans are not interchangeable terms. A broad carbohydrate result cannot be read as the amount of a specific component. If a seller provides a report, check the tested material, units, method, and batch instead of relying on a promotional chart.

Portions and percentages

A percentage describes composition; consumed amount also depends on serving mass. Even correct arithmetic cannot establish that two species or extracts have identical effects. Analytical composition, contamination checks, and clinical benefit address separate questions.

No invented testing badges

Liona will not assign fictional composition percentages to unreleased products. Any future report should connect to the finished ingredient and relevant batch. Until documentation exists, a precise potency badge would communicate certainty we do not have.
